Fifty years ago this year, in 1964, a community of faith came together to build a splendid new church for Holy Redeemer Parish. Over the coming months a series of events will be held to help us celebrate the Golden Jubilee of our church. We invite your ideas about how to mark the occasion, but most of all we invite all current and former members of the parish to participate in the celebrations. After all, it’s not every day that a church turns 50! To begin, please mark on your calendar Saturday, June 21, when Bishop Grecco will celebrate a special Jubilee Mass, followed by a Meet and Greet and a Banquet at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre. Further particulars about the June 21st event and other activities will be made available in the bulletin and on our website over the coming weeks. For more information, please contact Sr. Lorraine, 894-7385.
60s ROCK ‘N ROLL DANCE: As part of the Holy Redeemer Church’s Golden Jubilee, a special 1960’s Dance was held at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre, featuring not only music from the era when our church was built but the musicians who played it! Dino Dunsford and Friends provided the music. Ticket were sold at $10.00 per head and was held on November 21st from 8-11 p.m.
CATECHISM TIME CAPSULE: Sunday, April 13th, all students in the catechism program participated in an activity to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our present church on Pond Street. This activity was one of the many activities planned for the year. The activity involved the young people producing an item for a time capsule that was filled after mass on Sunday, April 27th – which was the last day of catechism classes for this year. The capsule will be sealed and buried after one of the masses near the bell tower in June. The planning committee invited all the catechism children and their families to the 11 AM mass on April 27th, followed by a time of socializing with refreshments for all at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre.
